A New Arrival!

You know, sometimes when we're coming down to the wire with a show and the tension is high, I think to myself, 'perhaps this is the frustration of those poor pregnant women whose babies are like three weeks overdue, and they just want to get them the heck out already. In the interest of full disclosure, I would know absolutely nothing about the reality of this particular analogy, but I feel that putting up a show is like trying to breathe life into another entity. With any luck, you do it right and the show stands up on its feet and does a little dance. I feel this way about the Diana Story. All this week I just couldn't wait for it to stand up in front of an audience and live on its own and be appreciated for what it is. Not to mention my job as costume design would then be over and I could focus completely on being a cast member. I do enjoy the marvelous efficiency of multi-tasking, but sometimes you can over-multi-task. This is what I have discovered. But now 'It Lives!' and we can all stand back like proud parents and watch this wonderful show take its first steps. I want to take this mushy moment to thank my fellow Samurai for being so dang cool - Matt, Nate, Emily, and Aaron. And the cast rocks hardcore tasty vittles as well. And a special thanks to Helene Turnbull, the playwright, for trusting us with her baby to begin with. Hopefully we haven't dropped it on its head.

Truth Honor Discipline...Cheese Wheel

I have returned from a great battle. None of the countless hours I have spent meditating upon every possible combat scenario could have prepared me for the cunning of my most recent foe. Their style and form was completely unknown to me and it seemed at times that there was no method or pattern in it that they were virtually impregnable. I was fortunate to survive my first meeting with such a brutal adversary and I have vowed to ceaselessly train (right after I'm done blogging) until my next encounter with the dreaded Urban Samurai Website HTML Coding. (Japanese flute plays lightly in the background accompanied by the sound of a slight gust of wind.)

Greetings! How about this website huh? The word "sexy" comes to mind and also "salad fork". I'm not sure why the new website makes me think "salad fork" but I'm sure there's a very Zen reason for it. If you do have any comments questions or concerns about the website please don’t hesitate to contact me at urbansamuraipro@gmail.com. There is no salad fork.

The Urban Samurai

Woah...

A brand spankin' new production is already gearing up to be the best project to date. I, personally, am very excited about "The Diana Story". We have a new venue, some great talent that we haven't worked with before, and an exciting script by a terrific local playwright. What could go wrong?

Rehearsals start tomorrow. From what i understand, Matt is going to have us all on stage for much of the show, a la a Greek Chorus. We will be used to move sets, props and be background for everything that is going on. So even though most of us have smaller roles, we will be involved throughout the production. I haven't ever done something like this so I'm interested to see how it works. I'll be sure to keep you updated as stuff roles along...

Story of Truthful Lies (or how I came to be a ninja)

Ah ha!

I am the first one to post on our very shiny new blog for Urban Samurai! As I write this, I am contemplating erasing it all, crumbling under the pressure to launch the blog, the enormous fear of screwing it up right off the bat....
But of course if you are reading this then I did not in fact delete it and go to bed as I know I should do. I instead remembered the stoic and kick ass spirit of all the ninjas that came before me, whose legacy I must continue. And so, valiantly, I begin the blog.

Firstly, you are wondering why I am a ninja and not a Samurai. Well, lucky for you, even if you were not thinking this, you are now and I shall give you an answer. I am both. Yes, it's true, I am both an Urban Samurai and a Rural Ninja. I am sure Aaron will have more to say on this matter, as he is the one who allowed me to be both at once, and it is he who has plans to make these seemingly dissimilar paths converge in a cacophony of wonder. And there is time enough to go into detail on this dual calling. Much fodder for discussion.

Instead I would like to tell you that the first night of auditions for our upcoming show 'The Diana Story' were a riot and an adventure all at once. What I mean to say is that they were a bit slow. And so I put the karmic suggestion into the void, "Please karma masters, send us capable actors to audition for our show. If you do so I will leave cookies and milk. Or no milk, if you are lactose intolerant, or generally don't like milk. There is no such concern for the cookies, as cookies are known to be the most universally loved treat of all time." Perhaps another time I will discuss my own tragic tale of life denying me the joy of cookies. Perhaps not. We'll go with the flow. I digress.

Anyway, so tomorrow is the last night of auditions before we hold callbacks (assuming at this point we will need them) and I am hoping that the karma masters will implant into the mind of every capable Minneapolis actor that they must attend the most important audition of their entire life. And people will come. Oh yes, they will come. Like Field of Dreams, at the end when that spooky girl says the line about all the people coming and then the camera pans away and there is a line of cars miles long, snaking their way through the Iowa countryside to come to this baseball field out in the middle of nowhere. Kind of like that.

So I'm off to pour the milk and lay out the cookies, and then I'll go to bed so I can get up before dawn and torture some folks.

Sayonara!

Marcia (the ninja samurai)
